THANK YOU to everyone who supported the choir on their recent cathedral singing week to Coventry. We had a marvellous time staying in Hereward College, where the accommodation, food, rehearsal and sporting facilities were excellent and the staff so helpful. The boys in their free time had a tour round the cathedral, visited the Transport Museum and Herbert Museum and Gallery, did some Ten Pin Bowling and enjoyed a brilliant day out at Warwick Castle. I never cease to be amazed at the dedication of the boys and men in rehearsal and performance and the choir was again on fine form throughout the week and we received many favourable comments from regular worshippers at the cathedral and visitors. Here’s just  one:

I dropped in on Sunday having, the previous day, heard another parish church choir in a different cathedral, one which dismayed me. What a change! It was thrilling to see such commitment and superb discipline in singing and in general demeanour. It was my second hearing of the Mendelssohn in a fortnight, the first being in my local cathedral. Your soloist was at the very least his equal and I was truly delighted with his singing and that of all those who supported him. It was a most impressive afternoon and I agree with the comment by the Canon who thought that the town of Southport should feel blessed by your presence. Thank you so much.

It was good to see family and friends swell the congregation especially at the weekend, and the week was rounded off by a lovely buffet and prize giving back at Hereward College. Thank you to Daniel Bishop for his wonderful accompanying. To Hilda and Margaret for looking after us so well and especially to Sue for all her advanced planning and hard work during the week ensuring that everything ran so smoothly. We are already looking forward to Durham next year! Ian Wells
