Coventry Cathedral Recordings

I thought you might like to see a comment I received concerning the recordings of HTC at Coventry Cathedral this Summer.

There is a little extraneous noise, and the distance between recorder and choir is apparent - not unexpected given how the recordings were made. But the quality of the choir shines through, as does the acoustic of the cathedral. There were only 10 boys on the tour, but you'd be unlikely to realise this. The Hear My Prayer soloist is impressive. Highly recommended, and at just £5 for the CD (68 minutes) and £6 for the DVD, bargain-priced.

The writer is from the South of England and has been a follower of ours for some years.  Through him, some of our material is now on its way to both the USA and Australia.

I can also tell you that we have been granted permission to make recordings in Durham during our sojourn there next Summer.

Bob

THANK YOU to everyone who supported the choir on their recent cathedral singing week to Coventry. We had a marvellous time staying in Hereward College, where the accommodation, food, rehearsal and sporting facilities were excellent and the staff so helpful. The boys in their free time had a tour round the cathedral, visited the Transport Museum and Herbert Museum and Gallery, did some Ten Pin Bowling and enjoyed a brilliant day out at Warwick Castle. I never cease to be amazed at the dedication of the boys and men in rehearsal and performance and the choir was again on fine form throughout the week and we received many favourable comments from regular worshippers at the cathedral and visitors. Here’s just  one:

I dropped in on Sunday having, the previous day, heard another parish church choir in a different cathedral, one which dismayed me. What a change! It was thrilling to see such commitment and superb discipline in singing and in general demeanour. It was my second hearing of the Mendelssohn in a fortnight, the first being in my local cathedral. Your soloist was at the very least his equal and I was truly delighted with his singing and that of all those who supported him. It was a most impressive afternoon and I agree with the comment by the Canon who thought that the town of Southport should feel blessed by your presence. Thank you so much.

It was good to see family and friends swell the congregation especially at the weekend, and the week was rounded off by a lovely buffet and prize giving back at Hereward College. Thank you to Daniel Bishop for his wonderful accompanying. To Hilda and Margaret for looking after us so well and especially to Sue for all her advanced planning and hard work during the week ensuring that everything ran so smoothly. We are already looking forward to Durham next year! Ian Wells

Date for your Diary – 25th September 7.15pm. Choral Evensong. A rare chance to hear Mendelssohn’s Hear my Prayer with the famous treble solo sung by our Head Chorister Josh Quinlan.
